The Bozos

The Bozos. Informal collective of chansonniers who in May 1959 established, and in subsequent months performed at, an early boîte à chansons in Montreal, Chez Bozo (1208 Crescent St). They took their name from the Félix Leclerc song 'Bozo'. Principals were Jacques Blanchet, Hervé Brousseau, Clémence Desrochers, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Claude Léveillée and Raymond Lévesque. Though short-lived, the Bozos are seen in retrospect to have signalled the emergence of the chansonnier as the dominant figure in music during the 1960s in Quebec (see also Chansonniers).
