Pelletier, Romain
Romain Pelletier (Peltier). Organist, teacher, composer, b Montreal 22 Aug 1875, d there 24 Nov 1953. After studying with Arthur Letondal (piano and organ) and Achille Fortier (singing and harmony), he was organist-choirmaster 1909-51 at St-Léon Church in Westmount (Montreal), and taught counterpoint and fugue, piano, and organ at the Institut Nazareth. Fleurette Beauchamp, Gabriel Cusson, Guillaume Dupuis, Conrad Letendre, and Georges-Émile Tanguay were among his pupils. He was a founding member of the Société des artistes musiciens de Montréal and composed motets and organ pieces. He wrote an important article about his father, Romain-Octave, which appeared in Qui? (Sep 1952) and was reproduced in Courtes Biographies canadiennes (Montreal 1952). His brother Victor (cellist, teacher, chartered accountant, b Montreal, ?, d after 1953) was a member, secretary, and music librarian ca 1907 of Goulet's MSO.
