Remi (Gidéon) Bouchard. Composer, teacher. b Laurier Man, 15 Mar 1936 AMM (1960). After studying with Gerald Death, Phyllis Holtby and Alfred Zimmerman, Bouchard taught piano in Neepawa near Winnipeg. He began composing works for solo voice and choirs, and teaching piseces for piano and the first concert of his works was presented in Winnipeg in 1976 His international debut took place when his Choral Fantasy on Haiku was premiered in Finland at the University of Tampere 1979. In 1986 Bouchard won the award for choral work in the Satori Festival of Contemporary Canadian Music in Winnipeg, at which time Clavier magazine commissioned his suite, Small Joys, published and reviewed in 1988. Some of Bouchard's compositions are published by Boston Music Co and several works have been heard on CBC radio. He is a festival adjudicator and clinician and a member of the Manitoba Composers' Association and the MRMTA.
