Reginald Hugo

Reginald Hugo. Engineer, organizer, tenor, b East Molesley, London, 18 Apr 1897, d Winnipeg 14 Aug 1974. He came to Canada in 1906, graduated as a civil engineer (Manitoba 1917), and became a bridge engineer for the CNR. He studied singing with W.H. Anderson and was a member of the Choristers.

Reginald Hugo. Engineer, organizer, tenor, b East Molesley, London, 18 Apr 1897, d Winnipeg 14 Aug 1974. He came to Canada in 1906, graduated as a civil engineer (Manitoba 1917), and became a bridge engineer for the CNR. He studied singing with W.H. Anderson and was a member of the Choristers. He also sang in the Winnipeg Male Voice Choir and was tenor soloist successively in three Winnipeg churches, notably St Andrew's, River Heights. His main contribution to music, however, was as an influential member 1923-74 of the Men's Music Club. Hugo was the club's president in the 1950s and for several years headed the syllabus and program committee of its main project, the Manitoba Music Competition Festival (Winnipeg Music Competition). He served 1949-64 as president of the FCMF and remained co-ordinator of the Manitoba festival until the year of his death.
