Taken to Canada in 1920, Mary Barrow studied in Toronto with Herbert and Reginald Barrow and began playing professionally at 15. In 1938, she became the principal horn for the Promenade Symphony Concerts. A member 1939-51 of the TSO (and principal 1939-45), she played the important horn part in the North American premiere (1945) of Britten's Serenade. She was a member 1952-62 of the CBC Symphony Orchestra.
