Marie (Marguerite Cécile Alice Louise) Daveluy. Soprano, teacher, b Victoriaville, Que, 20 Mar 1936. She studied 1956-9 in Vienna with Ferdinand Grossmann and Viktor Graef and received a grant from the Canada Council in 1960. After her debut at the Salzburg Opera in the role of Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos she sang 1959-61 with that company. At the Heidelberg Opera 1961-6 she performed about 30 roles, including the Queen of the Night, Susanna, Zerlina, Despina, and Constanza in the Mozart operas, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Micaëla in Carmen, Musetta in La Bohème, Gilda in Rigoletto, Anna in Falstaff, and the title role in Flotow's Martha. She continued her studies 1960-6 in Munich with Henny Schöner and Peter Schneider.

In Quebec City she sang Lakmé and other roles with the Théâtre lyrique de Nouvelle-France in 1965 and was soloist with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, the CBC Montreal chamber orchestra, and the Concerts Couperin. In Montreal she participated in the noon-hour concerts at the PDA in 1979. She taught singing at the UQTR 1971-84, and Lieder interpretation 1973-81 and singing 1984- at the CMM. She was the organizer 1972-7 of 'Musique vivante,' a series of weekly concerts in Trois-Rivières. With the pianist Diane Mauger she recorded 11 songs by Jean Chatillon (L'Oiseau-Coeur OC S-01) in 1974 and songs by Rodolphe Mathieu for the LP Musique québécoise 'nos compositeurs' (L'Oiseau-Coeur OC S-02) in 1977. She also performed Deux Poèmes by Mathieu with the Classical Quartet of Montreal on the latter recording. She is the sister of the organist Raymond Daveluy.
