Jennifer Tilly

Jennifer Tilly, actor (born at Harbor City, Ca 16 Sept 1958). Jennifer Tilly is known for her bubbly, sexy onscreen persona, distinctive breathy voice and full curves reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe. Tilly has made a career playing airheads with hearts of gold. Born Jennifer Elizabeth Chan and brought up on a hippie commune on Texada Island with her sister Meg TILLY, she is the second child of Harry Chan, a used car salesman, and Patricia (née Tilly), a Canadian schoolteacher and former stage actress. When Jennifer Tilly was 16, her mother moved to Victoria where Tilly attended Belmont High School. She ran track for Belmont before returning to the US to study drama at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

First Successes

In 1984, Jennifer Tilly had a recurring role on the police drama Hill Street Blues. Her breakthrough was in a small but memorable role as a singing waitress in The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989). She received an Oscar nomination for her star turn as a dumb and untalented actress in Woody Allen's Bullets over Broadway (1994). She starred in Bound (1996), a neo-noir thriller where she played the mistress of a money launderer who falls for an ex-con (Gina Gershon) and plots to steal $2 million with her new lover. The film became a cult classic in no small part because of the steamy affair between Tilly and Gershon. In the Jim CARREY comedy hit Liar, Liar (1997), Tilly plays a gold-digging client looking for a big settlement in a divorce from her millionaire husband. She next starred in Bride of Chucky (1998), the fourth installment in the series about the notorious killer doll.

She made a foray into animated features, providing her voice to Stuart Little (1999), Monsters Inc. (2001), Home on the Range (2004) and the TV series Family Guy.

In Dancing at the Blue Iguana (2000) she played a stripper; for Peter Bogdanovich on The Cat's Meow (2002) she played the newspaper columnist Louella Parsons.

Jennifer Tilly has appeared in Canadian features such as Shadow of the Wolf (1993), the tax-shelter satire Hollywood North (2004), Saint Ralph (2005), The Wrong Guy (1997), Deluxe Combo Platter (2004), Bailey's Billions (2005) and Tideland (2006).

More Acclaim

She was nominated for a Cable ACE Award for her work on It's Garry Shandling's Show (1986) and won a GEMINI AWARD for best actress in a leading role for the made-for-television film, Heads (1994). In 2001 she starred in the Broadway revival of The Women with Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Johnson and in 2008 she appeared with Miranda Richardson in the critically acclaimed production of Wallace Shawn's play Grasses of a Thousand Colors at the Royal Court Theatre in London.

She has also been seen in television shows such as Frasier, Drop Dead Diva, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Modern Family.

A Passion for Poker

An avid card player, in 2005 Jennifer Tilly won a World Series of Poker bracelet - and a substantial cash award - in the Ladies' No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em event, outlasting hundreds of other players. She won the third World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational Tournament held in Los Angeles and remains active as a poker player.
