Yvette Lamontagne. Cellist, teacher, b Montreal 26 Dec 1898, d Montreal 18 June 1992. She studied for three years on scholarship with Gustave Labelle at the McGill Conservatory. She then went to Paris, where she worked under Francis Touche and Marcel Hubert (brother of the pianist Yvonne Hubert) and took courses in interpretation with André Hekking and Pablo Casals at the École normale de musique. After returning to Montreal she was a member in 1922 of the Trio de Montréal (1922) with Jeanne Labrecque (violin) and Albertine Morin-Labrecque (piano). She gave numerous recitals in Quebec, Ottawa, and the USA and was a member of the first Montreal String Quartet. She taught 1922-63 at the McGill Conservatory, and at the CMM and the École Vincent-d'Indy. Among her pupils were Pierre Morin, principal cello of the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, and Lyse Vézina, a member of the MSO.

Yvette's brother Jules, a pianist and pupil of Arthur Letondal, was coach-accompanist for the Montreal Opera.
