Yves Beaupré. Harpsichord maker, b Montreal 21 Mar 1954; B MUS (Montreal) 1980. He first devoted himself to performance and was trained at the St-Laurent Cegep and at the University of Montreal. He then performed with the Ensemble Sarabande and the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal as well as on CBC radio and TV. A grant from the Canada Council (1981) enabled him to visit the great instrument collections in the world. In 1985 he studied in France to complete his expertise in the building of harpsichords. By 1991 he had produced about 60 instruments which are located at Bishop's University, the CMM, the Conservatoire de Rimouski, McGill University, and the University of Montreal. Some of his instruments have been delivered to England, Holland, Switzerland, and the USA. Canadian harpsichordists who use his instruments include Réjean Poirier and Christopher Jackson.
