Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Multi-purpose auditorium located next to the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building of Brandon University. The facility is operated by an incorporated board of governors appointed by the municipal and provincial governments. The land was provided by the university in exchange for certain guarantees relating to the university's use of the building. Completed in 1969 at a cost of about $2 million, the auditorium is Brandon's main concert hall and features continental seating (crescent arrangement without centre aisles) for 877 people on a raked floor, with a stage 10.5 m deep and a proscenium opening 7.2 m by 14.4 m. The orchestra/forestage lift projects 3.6 m into the house, while the height of the gridiron is 18.3 m, with 21 line positions. A rehearsal hall located beneath the main auditorium is used also for banquets, dancing, receptions, and social events, and the foyer accommodates receptions and exhibits. At stage and trap level there are eight dressing rooms, two chorus assembly rooms, and a scene shop. Those who have appeared there include Ballet British Columbia, Liona Boyd, the Brandon University Trio, BTO, Canadian Brass, Carlton Showband, Chilliwack, Bruce Cockburn, Burton Cummings, Judith Forst, the Irish Rovers, Anton Kuerti, Lighthouse, Catherine McKinnon, the Don Messer Show, Hank Snow, Up With People, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
