Toronto Men Teachers' Choir
The Toronto Men Teachers' Choir. An amateur group founded in 1941 by Murray Dobson and Alec Turner with about 10 members; it later had as many as 70. It gave its first public concert 27 Apr 1942 at Eaton Auditorium. Under the direction of Eldon Brethour 1941-58, Harvey Perrin 1958-69, James Maben 1969-74, and Bev Stainton 1974-6, the choir gave annual concerts until 1976, usually at Massey Hall or Eaton Auditorium. It also performed in the USA, throughout southern Ontario, and at Expo 67. On 26 and 27 Oct 1965 it participated in a performance of Brahms' Alto Rhapsody with Maureen Forrester and the TSO. Renamed the Toronto Men's Choir in 1975, it disbanded the following year. Recordings of the annual concerts (1950-69) were released privately by the choir.
