Sir Henry Mill Pellatt

  Sir Henry Mill Pellatt, capitalist (born at Kingston, Canada West 16 Jan 1859; died at Toronto 8 Mar 1939). Pellatt was educated at Upper Canada College and had a distinguished athletic career before joining his father's brokerage firm. He was active in the development of hydroelectric projects at NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario, and in the transmission and distribution of power in Toronto, until the provincial government created the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario and nationalized many of the private companies. He was also active in several transportation companies and in the organization of the Canadian General Electric Co. He took a keen interest in the Canadian militia. His eccentric stone mansion, CASA LOMA, has become a Toronto landmark. He was created Knight Bachelor (received knighthood by a British monarch) in 1905.
