Pelletier, Romain-Octave II
Romain-Octave II Pelletier (Peltier). Producer, critic, violinist, b St-Lambert, near Montreal, 26 Aug 1904, d there 11 Jan 1968; BA (Montreal) 1924, LL B (Montreal) 1927. After studies in law 1924-7 at the University of Montreal he became a notary and practised that profession 1928-33. He studied violin with Albert Chamberland. He began writing articles on music in 1922 for Le Devoir, La Revue moderne, and other publications. In 1933 for the CRBC radio network he began preparing and delivering the introductions to the broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic. He joined CBC Montreal in 1939 as a producer of programs of recorded music and served 1941-4 as assistant record librarian. He became a producer for the CBC IS in 1944 and for the French network of the CBC in 1951. Working for the latter until 1964 he was responsible for the series 'Festivals du Mercredi,' 'The Little Symphonies,' and other programs. He was admired by his colleagues for his erudition in music and in other fields.
