Vennat, Raoul
Raoul Vennat. Music dealer, flutist, b Clairac, France, 14 May 1869, d Montreal 1 Oct 1962. A Montreal resident after 1903, he established a music store which specialized in French music. He initiated 'Les Concerts du lundi,' free concerts of French and Canadian music, heard first ca 1921-3 at the Bouvier Ltée department store, then ca 1923-4 over CKAC radio. Vennat was a founding director (1923) of the Société canadienne d'opérette and published 1926-43 a periodical entitled La revue de musique et de broderie Vennat.. During his last years, the business became concerned only with embroidery and fabric.
