Beaupré, Odette
Odette Beaupré. Mezzo-soprano, b Rivière-du-Loup, Que, 5 Apr 1952. After studies at the CMQ with Marguerite Pâquet, Rolande Dion, and Janine Lachance, she had further training with Marlena Malas and Bonne Hamilton. In 1985 she came third in the Indiana Opera Theater MacAllister Award competition and the following year she received the first annual Toronto International Festival Music Award, as well as a scholarship from the Floyd S. Chalmers Foundation. She became a member of the COC 1983-6, singing such roles as Mercédès in Carmen, Siébel in Faust, Mother Marie de l'Incarnation in Dialogues des Carmélites, and Giulietta in Les Contes d'Hoffmann. She was also a founding member of the Opéra Mobile. In 1986 she sang the title role in Carmen with the Opéra de Québec. She made her European debut in Nice in 1987 as Zerlina in Don Giovanni which she sang later in Calgary and Edmonton. With the Opéra de Montréal she sang in 1985 (the Maestra in Suor Angelica and Lola in Cavalleria rusticana), 1986 (Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette), 1988 (Suzuki in Madama Butterfly), 1989 (Siébel in Faust, Isolier in Le Comte Ory, and Mother Marie de l'Incarnation in Dialogues des Carmélites), and 1991 (Nicklausse in Les Contes d'Hoffmann). Beaupré has performed in concert with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra under Charles Dutoit, and James De Preist, and has been heard frequently on CBC radio.
