Max (Alfred Edward Maximilian) Bohrer. Pianist, teacher, b Montreal 25 Feb 1860, d there 24 Apr 1942. He was taught by his father, William Bohrer, and was auditioned by Anton Rubinstein during the latter's visit to Montreal in 1873.

Max (Alfred Edward Maximilian) Bohrer. Pianist, teacher, b Montreal 25 Feb 1860, d there 24 Apr 1942. He was taught by his father, William Bohrer, and was auditioned by Anton Rubinstein during the latter's visit to Montreal in 1873. A music teacher in Montreal for some 57 years, Max was vice-principal of the Montreal School of Music and succeeded his father, ca 1908, as bursar of the Dominion College of Music, a position he still held at the outbreak of World War II. His playing was noted for a singing quality, said to have been a characteristic of his father's playing as well. His pupils included J.-Adélard Brunet. He willed his extensive piano-music collection of nearly 1300 volumes to the Fraser (later Fraser-Hickson) Institute of Montreal.
