Marcel Saucier, violinist, teacher (born 6 November 1912 in Montreal, QC; died 25 November 1997). Lauréat (Montreal) 1935, teaching certificate (Montreal) 1950, B MUS (Montreal) 1951. On his mother's side he was a cousin of Father Alfred Tardif.
Career
He studied violin 1919-25 with Albert Devault, 1925-8 with Alfred De Sève, 1929-30 with Raphaël Kellert, 1930-2 with Jeanne Labrecque, 1932-6 with Camille Couture, and 1936-7 with Maurice Onderet. He also took piano, harmony, and composition lessons from Antonio Létourneau and organ lessons from Eugène Lapierre. Between 1931 and 1935 he often performed in concert in Canada and the USA and on radio station CKAC. He taught at St-Guillaume College in l'Épiphanie, Que, at St-Louis College in Terrebonne, Que, and at St-Viateur High School in Montreal, but after 1935 confined himself exclusively to teaching in his Montreal studio. Among his pupils were Jean Cousineau, Roméo Galipeau, Jacques Perron, and Henriette Tardif. A number of the songs he wrote were performed by well-known artists such as Jean Lalonde. He published 'Valsons, valsons mon amour' (Montreal 1940, at his own expense) and a Gavotte for violin and piano (St-Viateur Library 1936). Fernand Robidoux made a 78 of his song 'Miarka, ma jolie' (London FC-134).
