Laure Fink

Laure (Marguerite) Fink. Pianist, educator, accompanist, born Mattawa, near North Bay, Ont, 17 Sep 1921, died Ottawa 3 Mar 2006; ATCM 1946, LGSM 1949, B MUS (Montreal) 1970. After studies in Ontario and in England, she settled in Montreal where she studied piano with Michel Hirvy 1950-5, while maintaining a career of teaching, accompanying and giving concerts. In 1950 she made a tour with the violinist Arthur LeBlanc. In 1955 she gave the North American premiere of the Concerto for piano and small orchestra by the Dutch composer Marius Flothuis with the CBC orchestra 'The Little Symphonies'. She also premiered Jean Papineau-Couture'sSuite for piano.in Montreal in 1957. She made numerous tours in Canada for the JMC (YMC), and was accompanist at the Conservatoire de Hull and at the Conservatoire de Trois-Rivières 1970-8 and coach at McGill University 1980-5. She became a member of the board of administrators of the Thomas More Institute for Adult Education (affiliated with Bishop's University) in 1968 where she began teaching music history in 1967. Laure Fink was president of the QMTA 1981-3. In addition to being an examiner for many organizations and institutions, including the AMQ, she has written reviews and revised texts in The Gazette and Le Devoir of Montreal and contributed to EMC.
