Pinson, Jean-Pierre
Jean-Pierre Pinson. Musicologist, teacher, flutist, b Orléans, France, 12 Dec 1943; L LITT (Poitiers) 1967; Certificate in musicology (Poitiers) 1977, MA musicology (Montreal) 1977, PH D musicology (Montreal) 1981. He studied at the University of Poitiers and at the University of Montreal, and began teaching musicology at Laval University in 1986. He has also taught recorder and music history at various institutions, including UQAM, the University of Montreal, and McGill University. He has been preoccupied mainly with the study of rhetoric in relation to music, and has done extensive research on plainchant in Quebec (from New France to the middle of the 19th-century) and on early music in general. A frequent guest lecturer for various associations and universities, he also was a researcher and broadcaster for such CBC radio programs as 'Les Goûts réunies,' 'Musique en fête,' and 'Les Grands Concerts'. He has written articles which have been published in Les Cahiers de l'ARMuQ, CUMR, and the Journal de musique ancienne, among others. He has also contributed to EMC.
