Dan (Daniel) A Cameron. Teacher, journalist, choirmaster, b Ottawa, of Scottish parents, 7 Aug 1880, d Regina 13 Nov 1963. Although his childhood was spent in Winnipeg he studied in New York with Herbert Witherspoon, Oscar Saenger, and others, began singing in Ottawa church choirs in 1919, and first taught voice at Albert College, Belleville, Ont. He was head of the voice department 1923-39 and director 1939-51 of the Regina Cons. Under the pseudonyms Simon the Jester (pseud) and Alan Brandt he wrote music and world affairs columns for the Regina Leader-Post 1923-54, and on his retirement from the conservatory in 1954 became a full-time editorial writer and music columnist. He was music director at Knox-Metropolitan Church, Regina, for over 25 years, conducted the Regina Bach Ladies' Choir, and founded and conducted 1926-46 the Regina Male Voice Choir. Appointed the Saskatchewan director of the WBM in 1951, he was also a member of the Regina Music Festivals Board, a founder of the Regina Music Teachers' Association (later SRMTA), and president 1951-3 of CFMTA and editor 1946-53 of its news bulletin.
