Bohner, Charles
Charles Bohner. Composer, arranger, teacher, fl Toronto 1882-98. Bohner, who had a music studio on Yonge St, wrote songs and piano pieces, of which the earliest extant, Aesthetic Valse and Claxton's Grand March (1882, both for piano), were published by T. Claxton. Other piano pieces included an arrangement of Chas. K. Harris' popular song 'After the Ball' (1893) and various waltzes and polkas published by Whaley Royce, Suckling, and Williams. He collaborated with several lyricists, including the popular singer James ('Jimmie') Fax, on many songs published by Whaley Royce. The same publisher issued several of Bohner's 'Canadian' pieces - 'Sounds of Toronto' (1890), Sir John Macdonald's Funeral March (1891), The Osgoode (1894) - and his compilation of non-Canadian popular music, The Elite Song Folio (no date).
