Canadian General Standards Board

The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) was established in 1934 under the National Research Council Act as the Government Purchasing Standards Committee and its present name was adopted in 1980. Now a part of Public Works and Government Services Canada, CGSB provides a range of standards development and conformity assessment services to governments and the private sector. The board develops, in both official languages, standards, specifications, manuals and guides; lists qualified and certified products and services; and registers companies which meet international standards for quality and environmental management systems.

CGSB is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada as a standards development, certification and registration organization. It also participates in many international standardization activities and various technical secretariats managed by the International Organization for Standardization, located in Geneva.
