Canadair Challenger, corporate executive aircraft developed and built in Canada. Exhaustive testing resulted in an advanced wing design, broad body and quiet, efficient engines. It carries up to 19 passengers at a normal cruise speed of 819 km/h. It first flew November 1978, but the crash of a prototype and financial troubles at Canadair delayed certification. The original 600 series was replaced by the 601 in 1983 and the 601-3A in 1987. The 604 model was developed in the 1990s; it benefits from the refinements made over 15 years of development and from the Canadian Regional Jet Program. Although it is a regional jet, the 604 has an inter-continental range of 4077 nautical miles, carrying 3 crew members and 5 passengers. Its maximum cruising speed is Mach 0.83 and its maximum altitude is 41 000 ft. It is produced by Bombardier Aerospace Regional Aircraft, which was created in 1992, and is responsible for life-cycle management of the Canadair Regional Jet and the Dash 8 families of aircraft.
