Alicia Birkett
Alicia Birkett. Teacher, soprano, b England, d Consett, County Durham, England, 31 Oct 1965. After a youthful career in opera and oratorio in Great Britain she emigrated to Canada and taught voice at the Regina Cons from the late 1920s until 1954. She also taught privately in Moose Jaw, Sask. In Regina she was for some years the soloist at Metropolitan Church and was the founder and the conductor ca 1932-40 of the Elizabethan Singers, a 15-voice choir which sang on CRBC and CBC radio. Among her pupils were Ann Nancy Goodfellow, June Kowalchuk, David Mills, Helen and William Morton, and Irene Salemka. She returned in 1954 to England and taught there until her death.
