Alberta Choral Federation
Alberta Choral Federation (Alberta Choral Directors' Association 1972-81). Incorporated in 1972, the organization assumed its current name and extended the scope of its activities and services to choral singers and choirs, as well as directors, in 1981. The federation is a non-profit educational organization whose affairs are governed by a board of directors representing all regions of the province.
The Alberta Choral Federation sponsors festivals and provincial, regional, and local workshops, in schools, churches, and communities, has participated in the government-sponsored provincial community workshop program, and sponsors the adult çhoir program at Musicamrose (see Summer camps and schools). The federation's Chor-Al-Fest '88 attracted 24 choirs, each receiving 30 minutes of performance/adjudication time followed by a 30-minute vocal clinic in competitive or non-competitive streams. The federation is also involved in arts advocacy, operates a choral lending library, and began publishing its Newsletter in 1981, which became Quires in 1983 (with five issues per year in 1990).
In 1990 the Alberta Choral Federation joined with the ARMTA, the Alberta Band Association, and the Alberta String Teachers and Players Association to present the Alberta Music Conference, a large gathering of institutional and community-based educators.
