Brock University was founded in 1964 in ST CATHARINES, Ontario. It is named after Major-General Sir Isaac BROCK, who led British forces in the WAR OF 1812 in a battle fought 8 km from the present-day site of the campus.
Brock has faculties of humanities, social sciences, math and science, business, physical education and recreation and education, and offers professional programs in accounting, business administration, sport management, health studies, biotechnology and education. Brock's facilities include a science complex, a physical education complex with an Olympic-size pool and residence accommodation for 1185 students. The campus is located on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment overlooking the city. When Sir Isaac Brock perished at the BATTLE OF QUEENSTON HEIGHTS in the War of 1812, his last words are said to have been "Surgite! Push on!" This phrase became Brock University's motto.
