Hélène Panneton. Organist, harpsichordist, teacher, b Sherbrooke, Que, 4 Feb 1952; BA French literature (Sherbrooke) 1972, B MUS (Sherbrooke) 1975, premier prix organ (CMM) 1977, M MUS harpsichord (Montreal) 1982. She studied with Juliette Millette, André Mérineau, Bernard Lagacé, and Réjean Poirier. In 1976 she won the John Robb Organ Competition. Assisted by grants from the MACQ and the Canada Council, she pursued studies in France with Xavier Darasse at the Toulouse Cons where she was awarded a silver medal (chamber music ) in 1978 and a gold medal (organ) in 1979. She has given organ and harpsichord recitals in Canada, Austria, and Belgium, and for CBC radio. Panneton became organist at the St-Viateur Church of Outremont (Montreal) in 1974. In 1981 she introduced an organ class in Sherbrooke, where the St-Jean-Baptiste Society awarded her the Prix Valmore-Olivier in 1983. She also teaches in Montreal and at Bishop's University. From 1981 to 1983 she edited Le Tic-Toc-Choc (later the Journal de musique ancienne), the only francophone journal of early music in Canada. She has contributed to EMC. She is a member of the Association des organistes du diocèse de Montréal (LAUDEM) and in 1990 became editor of its bulletin. She is the sister of Isabelle Panneton.
