Beauchamp-Huppé, Fleurette

(Marie Berthe) Fleurette Beauchamp-Huppé (b Beauchamp). Pianist, teacher, soprano, born Montreal 12 Dec 1907, died there 15 Mar 2007. She studied piano with Alice McCaughan 1915-22 and with Romain-Octave Pelletier, Arthur Letondal, and Romain Pelletier 1922-32. She also studied singing with Albert Roberval, stage deportment with Jeanne Maubourg, and harmony with Henri Miro and Rodolphe Mathieu. She appeared in the productions of the Société canadienne d'opérette. As a pianist she won a prize of the Canadian Institute of Music in 1930, 1931, and 1932, and its Prix de Paris in 1933. In Paris 1933-4 she studied piano with Victor Staub, Edith Lang-Laszlo, and José Estrada. On her return to Canada she gave recitals and was a soloist with orchestra on CBC and CKAC radio, performing works by François Brassard, Alexis Contant, R. Mathieu, Miro, Georges Savaria, and other Canadians, some of whom dedicated works to her. In 1945 she was the MSO's soloist in Les Djinns by Franck. She had a long and fruitful teaching career, notably at the CMM. She accompanied Yohadio (Adrienne Roy-Vilandré) for the recording Popular Songs of French Canada..
